my whanau

In RE this term we have been talking about our special families. We all have unique people in our families. We learned about the koru art of Reuben Paterson and he inspired us to show our whanau. My dad died earlier this year but we always remember him and I included dad in my picture. He is the big blue koru on the left and my mum is on the right. I also have included my big brother, Cameron, his girlfriend, Lia and Spencer. A long time ago my brother, Jazz died before he was born but we still remember him. He is in the green koru in the picture. I am the pink koru in the middle. I am special.

ST Mary’s School

Today I looked at St Mary’s  school on Google  earth.  It is a big school and they have a church but they  don’t have a cemetery like we do at St Patrick’s. They also have a big field to play on.

I really like our school because the field  is big so my friends don’t kick the ball out of the school

May Matariki Kite

Happy  Matariki New Year to everyone for tomorrow!

Matariki day is a day Maori remember the people that have passed away even in the past.

We have been learning to weave a kite.

How to make a kite

You need a brown paper bag

Cut the back and the front

Do a Maori design on one off them

Paint the one with the design on it in only three colours – black, red and white  and the other half you paint in one of five colours which are purple, yellow, green, orange and blue.

After you cut them into eight strips nearly to the top

Then you are ready to weave.

Weave the stripst over and under then you tie a string on the bag handle

And now you are finished .

I enjoyed making my beautiful kite.
